First, I must disclose, I am not a doctor or in the field of western medicine in any way. I am simply a person, who has had health struggles that have led me to investigate their root cause. Along the way, I have learned some things about the human body and how what we consume either helps or harms us. I lived my young life fully unaware that any of the toxic habits I had, were in any way, ever going to do any real harm to me. I was just out there, living my best life. It wasn't until much later, after some real health struggles, that I began to consider a change.

We consume much differently than they did at the time Jesus arrived on the scene. Those alive at the time, would not have been eating sour gummies at a movie, downing a Coors light after a long day at work or replacing natural sweetener with a lab created chemical that tastes somewhat similar-to-sweet, all in order to lose a few pounds. In modern day, we are slowly chipping away at our vital health, bite by bite, drink by drink. We are like the frog in water.

The ancients lived in a way where survival was at the center of everything. They were simply eating in accordance with what it took to survive. Even when they splurged, it was all natural foods that created the occasional, indulgent treat. Additionally, the people of that time used what the earth had to offer them and knew how to replenish what they took. They understood the delicate balance. It was a wisdom, deep rooted in the very fibers of their being since the very beginning. (Gen. 2:15)

History shows that many of the diseases we face today, were not as prevalent then as they are now. These chronic illnesses may have existed, but the rate of occurrence paled in comparison to today, especially in America. This leads me to believe that something significant has changed.

The constant factors here are what we are exposed to and what we consume. This leaves us with some choices we should consider putting into action. Though not outwardly exciting like the food that is marketed to us today, we would truly benefit if we would return to the ancient and simple ways of gardening and eating. Partaking only in wholesome foods is essential to begin the long journey back to the path of nourishment. Another area of great improvement would be to try to limit our exposure to environmental elements that cause us harm, to the best of our ability. 2 Corinthians 7:1 Says "Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of the reverence of God." Jesus was very clear that we are not to think in any way that we can rely only on being pure of the body in order to be made whole. However, He did want us to be healed and then to try to do only what is good afterwards, reflecting the life He led and the life He gave in order to teach us. In doing this, in honor of Him, we get to keep the balance of Mind, Body and Spirit.
